Scrap Metals You May Have At Home
Date
If you’ve ever thought about collecting and recycling scrap metal, you may be surprised at how much you have lying around in your own home. Depending on how old your home is, the types of appliances you have and other factors, you may find that you have a whole treasure trove of valuable scrap metal that you may be able to recycle.
Here are a few sources of scrap metal you may have inside your home.
Copper
Not only is copper the most stable and valuable scrap metal on the market today, it is also one of the most readily available inside your home. Copper is a component inside many items in your home including old appliances, wiring for electrical systems, plumbing pipes, even fixtures, decorations, and some cookware contain copper. Copper’s value is graded based on quality.
Brass
Another metal that you may be surprised at how much you have lying around is brass. Brass is found in many older homes as part of doorknobs and other fixtures including lighting, drawer pulls, decorative objects, and even bed frames. Brass is almost as valuable as copper and nearly as abundant in homes.
Aluminum
Aluminum is probably the most recognizable metal simply because so many people drink soft drinks and recycle the cans. While soft drink cans are a great source of aluminum, you may be surprised to learn how many other objects have aluminum in them. Disposable cookware, aluminum fencing, even used foil is all recyclable. If you have aluminum sports equipment it can easily be recycled and many appliances also have at least some aluminum in them.
These are three of the most common household metals. Have a look around your own home and see what you can find and start collecting scrap metal yourself.
